JEE ADVANCED

IIT Delhi is going to conduct the JEE Advanced 2020 on May 17 and the result of the entrance exam will be announced on June 8, 2020. As per the schedule available on the official portal, the seat allocation process for JEE Advanced will tentatively start from June 17, 2020.

This year, some new decisions have been taken by the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB). One of which is that the number of candidates shortlisted for JEE Advanced has been increased by 10,000. Earlier, 2,40,000 candidates were allowed to appear for JEE advanced but now 2,50,000 candidates will be shortlisted to take the exam. 


Another key decision is to hold the JEE Advanced exam in the United States for the first time. A JEE Advanced examination centre will be set up in San Francisco area to serve this purpose


Through JEE Advanced, candidates can secure admissions to the following courses:


4-year Bachelors - BTech, BS

5 year BArch

5 year Dual Degree - BTech, MTech, BS, MS


5-year Integrated Masters - MTech, MSc, Dual Degree

Before starting the preparation for JEE advanced 2020 we shall be fully aware about the
syllabus of JEE Advanced 2020 and must study the trend of weightage of chapter in JEE
advanced appearing every year.

Studying the previous year's trends is important because it will show you which section is worth investing time.
For example P Block is really big and time consuming chapter and only 2 question appear in paper while Biomolecules is a really small chapter and 2 question which are easy appear every year so instead of wasting time in time consuming and non rewarding chapters it is better to study easy and fruitful chapters first. If your percentile is above 98.5 in JEE main 2020 Congrats you have secured a seat in a NIT. This will surely make you more confident about JEE Advanced preparation after jee main.

First analyze where did the things went wrong which resulted in a percentile less than 99.5 .

Now start working on those problems.

First start with conceptual errors.

If there is a conceptual error then understand that very concept thoroughly as JEE advanced requires in depth knowledge of concepts then solve previous year problems of the same concept then solve Exercise 2 of your coaching material.

Note down silly mistakes and try not to repeat those mistakes again.

Solve these books :-
1. Previous 40 years paper of JEE advanced maths , physics and chemistry.

2. create list of Named reaction in JEE advanced acc. to syllabus and write the reactions by yourself

3. Short notes must be revised on daily basis( this will boost your rank by several thousand in JEE advanced 2020)

4. formula of electric field , magnetic field , RBD , COM etc shall be on 1 paper Only.

5. Atleast solve 50 tough(including all pcm) problems a day (Must be challenging problems )

6. Practice increasing sitting time as you have to sit for around  6hr in JEE Advanced 2020.

7. 9-12 and 2-5 must be studying time , do not sleep in this period.

8. Say I'm the best 3 times a day to feel confident.

Case 2: If your percentile is 95<percentile<98.5

Although you will be able to secure a seat in NIT but you're ultimate aim is IIT so be sure of doing rigorous hard work.

Start with revising Important topics which have highest question appearing in JEE advanced .
Then solve previous year JEE main problems of that concept if you are able to solve 90% of the questions move forward to JEE advanced problems and fight with them.

But if you are not able to get 90% of the questions then first read question and look into the concept and again try question but do not give up.

Short notes must be revised at the end of the day and start of the day.

Before sleeping ask yourself what did you learned today.

Do not waste a moment as you will be regretting about it in future.

solve as many problems as you can but the question bank must be of mixed chapters not of a single chapter. question must be of various concepts in 1 question.

Clear your doubts at that very moment do not leave them for future.

Case 3: If your percentile is 90<percentile<95

You should seriously work on your concepts. 
Read the notes thoroughly and understand the application part of that concepts since application is most important way to prepare for jee advanced.

Invest your time on revision and then solving questions of that chapter. This will tell you where are you lagging behind.

Leave all the social media stuff for this month , you cannot afford to waste a second till JEE advanced is over .

Solve as many as papers you can as this will make you learn how to solve tricky questions.


Case 4: If your percentile is 90<percentile

Improve your paper attempting strategy

How much time to spend on a question?
The most common answer is 3 hour paper, 60 questions so approximately less than 3 minutes on average. taking into account the time to revise. Problems which appear in JEE advanced contain calculations, multiple concepts and proper method which makes a question time consuming.
We have to make sure we solve chemistry in about 40 minutes in jee advanced  which saves us time for physics and mathematics as they consume a lot of time because of calculation and solving part.
You should not attempt all the 60 questions unless in your previous mock exams you have scored around 300+.
It depends on a realistic estimate of how much you will be able to score. If say I can score around 200 out of 360, I should not try to attempt more than 240. Because the doubtful questions are more likely to be wrong. So you may end up spending more than 3.5 minutes on questions on average and still be fine.
Negative marking is a big factor in JEE advanced so be sure you do not do any sort of guess work in JEE advanced.
As partial marking system is introduced , just mark the option which you are sure of.
Do not waste time on tough questions solve easy questions first and then move to tougher ones.
What to attempt first?
This depends on your personal preference there are two to three strategies that you can follow:
a) Favorite first: This is because you believe it to be high scoring and want to spend maximum effort in this. Be cautious about not spending too much time on this topic.
b) Favorite last: Attempt all the questions which seem easy from the difficult topics and then spend the remaining time on marks scoring topic
c) Random: Start with which ever is the first subject in booklet and attempt all very easy questions first, then a bit harder and lastly difficult. Basically iterating over the paper.
Common mistakes:
1) Don’t loose heart: If you are not able to solve the first 10 questions, you still have 50 more questions to try, do not lose your moral.
2) The paper is tough or easy for everyone
3) During the break, Do not discuss answers in the lunch break between the 2 papers
4) In JEE Main I had marked 6 answers in chemistry incorrectly. basically I marked the answer for 2nd in 3rd, 3rd in 4th and so on.. So be very careful.
You should give at least 3 full exams before JEE in the say last 2 weeks to understand your ability and personalize your strategy.
